Dr Gabor Mate is one of the few doctors who has deepened the exploration into the roots of addiction. He links addiction to the development of the brain in childhood years as a result of parental attachment (or the lack of it) and traumas. The more severe the experience of abandonment or trauma, and the earlier physical or sexual trauma has taken place, the more severe the addiction.
I’ll write more on his finding in the weeks to come.
